Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Stop the Timer Team (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use Stop the Timer at stopthetimer.com (the “Service”).

1. Information we handle

Information stored on your device

The Service may use your browser's local storage to save recent attempts, personal best scores, game settings, sound preferences, and an anonymous game identifier. This information generally remains on your device unless you choose a feature that submits information to us. You can remove it through the “Reset Local Data” control or your browser settings.

Challenge information you submit

If you create or join a shared challenge, we may process a display name, target time, game mode, score, whether you were early or late, challenge and result identifiers, timestamps, and integrity or abuse-prevention signals. The display name and selected game results may be visible to anyone who has the challenge link. Please do not use your real name, email address, phone number, or other personal information as your display name.

Technical and security information

When you access the Service, our hosting and security providers may process IP address, browser and device information, request time, requested URL, response status, and security signals. We use this information to deliver the Service, prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, diagnose errors, and protect users.

Contact and report information

If you contact us, report a challenge, or submit a privacy request, we may process your email address, message, relevant challenge or result URL, and the information needed to respond.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide, maintain, and improve the game;
  • create and display shared challenges and casual leaderboards;
  • remember settings and local scores;
  • prevent fraud, spam, abuse, and duplicate submissions;
  • investigate reports and enforce our Terms;
  • respond to support, privacy, and legal requests; and
  • comply with applicable law and protect rights and safety.

3. How we disclose information

We may disclose information:

  • Publicly at your direction. A display name and selected challenge results are shown on the challenge page when you use shared challenge features.
  • To service providers. We use providers for hosting, database, security, and support. They process information for us under their applicable terms and agreements.
  • For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful process, investigate abuse, or protect users, the Service, or others.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie & Local Storage Policy. Essential technologies support security, challenge tokens, preferences, and local game history.

5. Retention

Local game data remains in your browser until you reset it or clear browser storage. Shared challenges accept new attempts for 30 days. We retain challenge and result records for up to 30 days after creation, then delete or de-identify them, unless a shorter or longer period is reasonably necessary for security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations.

6. Your choices and privacy rights

You may:

  • reset local game data using the in-product control;
  • avoid shared challenge features and use local play only;
  • use the default display name instead of providing a custom name;
  • request that a challenge display name or result be hidden or deleted; and
  • contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or other rights available under applicable law.

To submit a request, email privacy@stopthetimer.com with the subject “Privacy Request.”

7. Children

The Service is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 submitted personal information through the Service, contact privacy@stopthetimer.com so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No service or method of transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. We will change the “Last updated” date and provide additional notice when required by law.
